5 Best Professional Interior Photography Tips

In today’s era; interior design websites and blogs are increasing; the demand for excellent interior photography is on rise. For architecture firms, real estate agents, cafés and hotels; it is necessary to have appropriate interior photography or these may get lost in the crowd.

In order to sustain in the market and stay ahead, here we have mentioned 5 best tips from experts for interior photography…

a) Click from the corner:  Stand in the corner of the place of which you wish to take the interior images. Don’t face the wall. Adjust yourself tightly in the corner; this will give you the widest perspective of the interior.

This allows you to catch more of what makes it special. Try every corner of the space to get perspective of each of them. Some of the photographers compress their camera against the wall to get the widest possible angle.

b) Have appropriate Lighting: Photography lighting is in itself a speciality. It is necessary to balance the lighting to avoid any dark shadows or bright highlights. Make best use of light that is available to you in the room.

This light can be from lamps, overhead lighting, fireplaces and natural light from windows. Try out different light combinations to get the best for every space. You may be in need of soft lighting.

Shoot in natural light from the windows during the ‘golden hours’ of photography i.e. early in the morning or late in afternoon.

c) Manage the space properly:  Always manage the space before beginning the shoot rather than starting the shoot randomly. Think about the image that you wish to capture before taking the photographs.

Add some features to the room to make the wonderful atmosphere in case the scene is dull. Place some cushions in an organized form or stack of newspapers in a proper manner to give your photography the required character.

Move around and feel the space before using any photography tips mentioned in this article. Before beginning any interior photography project, think about its end goal. Every client has different requirements to consider.

How these shots will be used? How some space is to be left for graphic designers are the things that every photographer must consider? While shooting for any restaurant, you must capture its atmosphere and consider the details as well as the people in its shots.

Focusing on senses can be a good approach and you may not want to shoot the restaurant looking cold and empty. Always focus on the goal and be sure about it before you shoot. Try to describe a story through images that you have captured, always focus on interesting details that make the place special.

D) Be prepared for Success: To start with, a wide angel is a good point. Choose a purpose built wide angle lens for best results. 16mm to 24mm lens will offer you greater perspective from every space corner.

Always take a standard lens for close ups of details you may wish to capture to support wide angles. Based on the space, you may also want to have a macro lens to catch fine details.

e) Be straight:  Make sure that all the vertical lines in the interior image are going straight up and down and are not meeting at top or bottom. Use tripod with a spirit level to make sure that lines of features such as book cases, doors, windows, tables are all paralleled within the frame.

In case, the lens is tilted slightly up or down; the lines will go diagonally leading to unwanted distraction to the viewer and sneering from the interior impact. The interior will then appear to fall away or leaning towards the viewer.

Vertical correction is most important. Every view must be 90 degrees to the wall. Make sure to maintain proper balance between left and right side and ensure that the floor and ceiling are displayed in proper proportions.
